One of our templating personnel will be the first of The Stonery's professionals to visit your project. You should expect our templating personnel to be polite, pleasant, to the point, and perceptive. While not absolutely necessary, we always recommed that you be present during the template process. This is the time to discuss and determine the details of your countertops.
The Stonery's operational blend of current technologies and quality control checks dramatically reduces the probability of a mistake being made at any point during templating and manufacturing. We utilize a laser templating machine for the vast majority of our projects that provides a high degree of precision, and we check the laser measurements against good old fashioned tape measurements. That being said, if during a review of our templated measurements we are uncertain about the accuracy of a particular dimension, then we will want to return to the project for verfication purposes.
In order for our templating personnel to do their job properly it is imperative that the customer have all cabinets completely installed, as well as checked for level and plumbness. We simply cannot generate accurate templates without the cabinets being fully and properly installed. In the case of remodel projects, more specifically those instances where existing cabinets will be left in place, only in very rare instances will we require the existing countertops to be removed before templating.
Regarding sinks, faucets, and appliances...
Unless the customer is purchasing a sink from The Stonery, the sink needs to be at the jobsite at the time of templating. Our templating personnel will usually bring the sink back to our facility for processing, with our installation personnel returning the sink to the project along with the manufactured countertops. If the customer specifies a farm sink, then the farm sink must be in place within the cabinets before templating, without exception.
The Stonery deals with faucet information much like that of sinks. Whether or not we actually bring the faucet hardware back to our facility depends in large part on the complexity of the layout, but at minimum we will want the hole configuration to be specified by the customer at the time of templating.
While not absolutely necessary, ideally cooktops, ranges, and other appliances will be at the jobsite for the templating process. The information related to cutouts and openings for these and other appliances are critical, thus having the appliances onsite for the template dramatically reduces the possibility for error.
Please Note: If your project is a remodel requiring the removal of existing countertops, then we will coordinate our schedule with the “tear-out” contractor and/or the plumbing contractor in an effort to minimize the disruption of your household. In most cases, but not all, the removal of the old tops will take place early in the morning, we will install your new granite countertops immediately thereafter, and the plumber will follow-up the next day to complete the process. We will make references for tear-out and plumbing professionals, but we do not negotiate for, nor subcontract to, those professionals. The tear-out and plumbing person(s) will deal directly with you regarding the scope and price of their work.
